Joining a pantheon that includes Philip Roth, E.L. Doctorow and John Updike, Benjamin Alire Sáenz has won the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction for his short story collection, âEverything Begins and Ends at the Kentucky Club,â The Associated Press reported.
The author will receive $15,000 for âEverything Begins and Ends at the Kentucky Club,â published by Cincos Puntos Press of El Paso, the PEN/Faulkner Foundation announced on Tuesday.
Earlier this year, Mr. Sáenzâs âAristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universeâ was selected by the American Library Association as the best young adult novel about the Latino cultural experience and the best book about the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender experience.
