In The New York Times Book Review, Elinor Lipman reviews âSister Mother Husband Dog (Etc.),â the new collection of essays by Delia Ephron, sister of the late essayist and screenwriter Nora Ephron. Ms. Lipman writes:
Many of the pieces, like âBlame It on the Movies,â should be read as autobiographical slices rather than essays. We learn how she met the WASP first husband who was a bad fit; about her long, still-happy second marriage; about her dogs (she apologizes for the essay âDogs,â but she shouldnât); about the networking or lucky breaks that brought her first, second and third books into print; and about her most-watched movie (âSeven Brides for Seven Brothers,â at least 30 times). She is unpretentious and â" one bets â" truthful always. âIn college the only thing that interested me was dating. Being in love. In the library I had a reward system: 10 minutes of studying, 10 of daydreaming.â
On this weekâs podcast, Ms. Ephron discusses her book; Eric Schlosser talks about âCommand and Control,â his new book about nuclear weapons; and Gregory Cowles has best-seller news. Pamela Paul is the host.
