For the last two months, Robin Thicke has had the No. 1 song in the country with âBlurred Lines,â a smooth disco tune inspired by Marvin Gayeâs âGot to Give It Up.â This week the song entered its ninth week at No. 1, the longest run by a male solo act since Flo Ridaâs âLowâ in 2008, which stayed on top for 10 weeks.
Now Mr. Thicke, 36, has a No. 1 album as well. Also called âBlurred Linesâ and released by Star Trak/Interscope, the album opened with 177,000 sales when it was released last week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. âBlurred Linesâ is Mr. Thickeâs sixth studio album, and his first to reach the chartâs summit.
A handful of new albums also placed high on the Billboard chart this week. âThe Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell, Volume 1â³ (Prospect Park), by Five Finger Death Punch, a hard rock band from Los Angeles, opened at No. 2 with 112,000 sales. (Vol. 2 is due out later this year.) âSomething Elseâ (Strange Music) by Tech N9ne, a rapper from Kansas City, Mo., bowed at No. 4 with 58,000, and the Backstreet Boysâ âIn a World Like Thisâ (K-BAHN/BMG) is No. 5 with 48,000.
Also this week, Jay Zâs âMagna Carta ⦠Holy Grailâ (Roc-A-Fella/Universal) dropped one notch to No. 3 in its fourth week out, with 62,000 sales. Selena Gomezâs âStars Danceâ (Hollywood), last weekâs No. 1, fell to No. 8 with 31,000 sales.
