Dear Diary:
The scene: the Morgan Library exhibition in honor of the 100th anniversary of Marcel Proustâs novel âSwannâs Way,â the first in his seven-volume series âIn Search of Lost Time.â
The exhibition occupies the Thaw Gallery, an intimate space where you canât help but overhear your neighborsâ conversations. A husband strides in excitedly, towing his wife, who appears a bit mystified.
Husband (staring intently at one of Proustâs manuscripts, written longhand in school composition books â" clearly he is a fan): âThis is amazing.â
Wife: âWhatâs the big deal with Proust againâ
Husband: âItâs a long story.â
