Changes in network late-night talk shows may be drawing the big headlines, but much activity in that field has been taking place on cable.
IFC has already picked up the second season of Scott Aukermanâs âComedy Bang! Bang!,â which deconstructs the form, while FX announced itâs turning âTotally Biased With W. Kamau Bellâ into a nightly show on weekdays. Both return later this year.
Now MTV, which recently dipped its toe in the late-night genre, has renewed âNikki and Sara Live,â its weekly show starring two stand-up comics based in New York, Nikki Glaser and Sara Schaefer.
The show, which begins with the two comics telling topical jokes riffing on pop culture and ends with an interview, is shot in the channelâs Times Square studio. The second season will consist of 12 episodes that will have their premiere this summer.
The comedians learned the news from Katie Couric on her talk show, which was taped Thursday and is being broadcast today.
If thatâs not enough on new talk shows, donât forget the return of Arsenio Hall in September. Will the Dog Pound be there? Chuck? Things that made Mr. Hall go âhmmm.â We shall see.
