Neil Young and Crazy Horse will do a benefit concert at a casino in Atlantic City to raise money for people displaced by Hurricane Sandy. The concert, âA Special Evening with Neil Young & Crazy Horse,â will be held at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa on Dec. 6, a publicist for Mr. Young announced on Thursday. Everest, an alternative rock band from Los Angeles, will open the show. Tickets, which go on sale Friday on the casino's Web site, will cost between $75 and $150. Mr. Young has pledged all the proceeds will go to the American Red Cross's relief fund for vi ctims of the storm.
Mr. Young is only one of several rock stars and pop musicians who are using their celebrity and talent to raise money for recovery efforts. Juanes and Juan Luis Guerra gave their profits from a concert in Brooklyn last week to the Red Cross. At Madison Square Garden on Dec. 12, Jon Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Paul McCartney, the Who and other rock luminaries will perform at a benefit concert called â12-12-12.â
Other lesser-known artists have donated tracks to a charity album, waiving their royalties. TuneCore, an online distributor of music, has released a compilation album called âAfter the Stormâ that features artists like Foxymoron, Gavin Mikhail and teh Infamous Stringdusters. All of the proceeds are being directed towards rebuilding efforts in New York City.
