Editing video on Windows Phone 8.1 just got easier with Video Tuner

Video editing on a smartphone has become second nature on Android and iOS handsets. And if Microsoft has anything to say about it, it will on Windows Phone too: The company introduced Video Tuner for its operating system on Wednesday.

The new app, which can be found for free in the Windows app store, works with Windows Phone 8.1 and adds a number of editing features for video captured on a handset: You can apply filters, add music, trim, crop, rotate, mirror flip and change speeds of your video, for example. Exposure, contrast, color saturation and volume can also be adjusted in Video Tuner.

Since the app requires Windows Phone 8.1, few phones today can actually run it. Aside from installing the developer preview of Windows Phone 8.1, Microsoft hasn’t yet released the software as an update. There are a select few new Lumia handsets shipping with Windows Phone 8.1 and many more to follow in the near future though. If you can’t install Video Tuner as a result, here’s a short look at what to expect.
