www.adjet.info: What’s up with Google and Microsoft clouds? Hear from the execs in charge

If you’re a public cloud watcher, you’ve got your eyes on Google and Microsoft, the two companies that have the resources and wherewithal to mount a serious challenge to Amazon Web Services. So it’s good to hear what Urs Hölzle, Google senior vice president and Scott Guthrie, Microsoft senior vice president of cloud and enterprise for Microsoft have to say about how things are going and what the cloud landscape is like.

On this week’s Structure show hear wahtt they ahd to say on stage at the Gigaom Structure show. It’s sort of helpful to remember that even the greatest journeys start with a single step. As Hölzle told Derrick Harris, when he joined Google nearly 20 years ago, there was little indication of the power ti would become: "We were trying to survive to next Monday … The focus was very short term."

The race is on for these giant cloud companies to layer higher level services on their infrastructure while also continuously cutting prices on base storage and compute modules. Asked if the price cutting between Google, Microsoft and AWS will continue forever Guthrie responded: “That’s how i’m modeling it.”
