Verizon may not be honoring its commitment to provide free baseline LTE connectivity to the Chromebook Pixel, but Google is trying to make up for the bad behavior of its carrier partner. Google told ComputerWorld that it would offer $150 credits to customers that bought their Chromebook's under the original LTE Pixel promotion.
As Gigaom's Kevin Tofel wrote on Monday, many Pixel buyers were told they would get either two or three years of free 4G access from Verizon by opting for the more expensive LTE version of the Chromebook. The deal was for only 100 MB a month of access, which isn't much, but it's enough for emergency purposes. When Verizon decided to stop supporting the free plan many customers understandably felt jilted.
A Google spokesperson told ComputerWorld's JR Raphael that customers can contact the Google Play hardware support center to initiate the credit, which will come in the form of a Visa gift card.
