As if we needed any more evidence that mobile gaming is a serious force in the gaming business, 2K Games and Firaxis announced today that the long-requested sequel to Civilization Revolution will be coming to iOS devices next Wednesday, July 2.
There aren't many details about the sequel as of yet, but promo shots provided by 2K show leaders like Winston Churchill and Abraham Lincoln staring up from out of your iOS device. The publisher says the new game will "stay true to the series" by allowing players to "wage war, conduct diplomacy, discover new technologies, and build the most powerful empire the world has ever known in a race for ultimate supremacy," so don't expect any huge deviations from form. No price has been announced, but 2K noted that the game is "launching as a premium title," so it seems there's no need to worry about free-to-play monetization shenanigans here.
The original Civilization Revolution was built specifically as a console-friendly version of the popular PC simulation series, first pitched as an "accessible, visually immersive, and action-packed world specifically designed for the console and handheld gamer." Some have derided the game for dumbing down the complexities of the core Civilization experience, but the spin-off has gained a following that appreciates the more streamlined approach to civilization management.
