Noise From the Upstairs Neighbors

Victor Kerlow

Dear Diary:

You know what it’s like when you see two people having a game of catch but using furniture? Yeah, me neither. However, I do know what it sounds like! Just listen from my apartment anytime after midnight. Or anytime before midnight, through the middle of the night, early in the morning, Sunday afternoon, you pick.

I moved into the East Village as a student from Long Island slightly over a month ago. I’ve never had upstairs neighbors before. I grew up in a suburban house; the only thing above me was our Christmas decorations in the attic.

I understand there will be some noise, I get the whole “my ceiling is their floor” concept, but these, these are intense crashes and bangs all day and all night. I imagine these guys having a catch with pieces of their furniture but missing and dropping them every single time.

With the nonstop activity and long hours, the only conclusion I can form is that the upstairs neighbors are Olympic training in my “attic.”
