Please Call Me Miss, Not Ma’am

Dear Diary:

To the polite men of Manhattan and beyond,
If I happen to drop my scarf
and you’d like to alert me to the fact,
you need not call me “Ma’am”
or “Excuse Me.”
My sisters and I were once “Miss”
and you know what? We kinda miss it.
