Larry McMurtry, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of âLonesome Dove,â âTerms of Endearmentâ and âThe Last Picture Show,â has left Simon & Schuster after more than 40 years and signed with Liveright Publishing.
His next book, âThe Last Kind Words Saloon,â scheduled to appear in June 2014, is a fictional retelling of the friendship between Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday, set against an Old West backdrop of barrooms, brothels and cattle ranches. The story ends, as it must, at the O.K. Corral.
Mr. McMurtryâs last novel, âWhen the Light Goes,â was published in 2007. In the meantime Mr. McMurtry married Faye Kesey, the widow of the writer Ken Kesey, in 2011 in his hometown, Archer City, Texas. Mr. McMurtry and Mr. Kesey were in the graduate writing program at Stanford University in the late 1950s and met in a class taught by Wallace Stegner.
