Labyrinth Theater Company announced on Friday that as part of its 2013-14 season the Obie Award-winning playwright Eric Bogosian would perform roughly 100 monologues during October from his legendary one-man shows in the 1980s and â90s. The monologues, culled from plays like âSex, Drugs, Rock & Rollâ and âPounding Nails in the Floor with My Forehead,â will differ for each performance, which will run Oct. 1-20 at Labyrinthâs Bank Street Theater.
The fall season will also include âSunset Babyâ by Dominique Morisseau (âDetroit â67â); the new play is described in press materials as âthe story of a former black revolutionary and political prisoner who decides to connect with his estranged daughter.â Performances are scheduled to begin Nov. 6 at Bank Street Theater. Also there this fall Labyrinth will hold a new series of âartist salonsâ featuring performances and conversations with company members like the poet Craig âMumsâ Grant (Arnold Jackson on HBOâs âOzâ) and the Tony Award nominee Daphne Rubin-Vega (âRentâ). A Labyrinth spring production will be announced later.
This 2013-14 season of Labyrinth, a downtown troupe known for its ethnically diverse casts, is the first to be planned by the companyâs new artistic director, Mimi OâDonnell. She was appointed in the spring after a few rocky years when Labyrinth productions drew poor reviews after years of acclaim; Ms. OâDonnell had been part of a triumvirate of artistic directors who led Labyrinth during that period.
