âAnn,â Holland Taylorâs solo show about the former Texas governor Ann Richards, will close on June 30 at Lincoln Centerâs Vivian Beaumont Theater, several months before its scheduled closing date of Sept. 1, the showâs producers announced on Wednesday. Directed by Benjamin Endsley Klein, âAnnâ opened on Broadway in March to mostly positive reviews and was extended once. But weekly grosses never surpassed $400,000, and in recent weeks it never played to more than 50 per cent of its capacity at the Beaumont.
Ms. Taylor was nominated for a leading actress Tony Award for her performance, but lost to Cicely Tyson of âThe Trip to Bountifulâ when the awards were handed out on Sunday. When it closes âAnnâ will have played 19 previews and 132 regular performances. The show toured before coming to New York, and producers indicated that future productions are likely but announced no details.
