Tribeca Film Festival: Audiences Pick Their Favorites

A film that won over the Tribeca Film Festival’s jury has proven popular with the event’s audiences as well.

“The Rocket,” which has already garnered festival prizes for best narrative feature and best actor, won the audience award for narrative feature on Saturday night. In the film by Kim Mordaunt, a Laotian boy seeking a new start for his family enters a rocket-building festival.

The audience award for documentary went to “Bridegroom,” directed by Linda Bloodworth-Thomason, known for television series like “Designing Women” and “Evening Shade.” Her film looks at issues that affect same-sex couples through the prism of a widower’s struggles.

The winners, chosen by audience members who cast ballots on their way out of screenings, will play again on Sunday, the last day of the festival.
