Woman, 19, Dies After Seeking Refuge in Apartment Lobby

A 19-year-old woman died early Saturday morning in the East Village after seeking shelter in the lobby of an apartment house, the police said.

A police official said that the woman, Jocelyn Pascucci, of East Meadow, N.Y., had been visiting bars in the neighborhood with friends but had become separated from them as the night wore on.

Sometime after 4 a.m., the official said, Ms. Pascucci approached 125 East 12th Street, where a doorman allowed her to enter.

The doorman later told officers that “she looked like she was cold” and seemed as if she had been drinking, a police official said. The official added that Ms. Pascucci either collapsed or lay down inside the building’s lobby, prompting the doorman to call 911.

Officers responded to the building about 5 a.m. and Ms. Pascucci was taken by paramedics to Beth Israel Medical Center where she was pronounced dead just before 6 a.m.

The police official said that there was no visible trauma to Ms Pascucci’s body. He added that relatives said that she had suffered from some medical problems and that the medical examiner would determine the cause of death.
